Hello Hello! How are you?

I have decided to do a few tags over the festive period and this is the first Christmassy one that I picked! I’m so busy at the minute, so it’s nice to take a break and write this post, but it’s also not super long!

Thank you so much to Danni from For Books Sake who tagged me in this post, go check out her post here, she is great!! Danni found this tag on The Book Dutchesses blog and it was originally created by Lizzie Loves Books, so go check these two blogs out too!

Now, time for the tag!!

ON THE FIRST DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: A PARTRIDGE IN A PEAR TREE.

The partridge stood alone in the pear tree. What is your favourite stand alone?

The Shadows Between Us

Well, this is already a REALLY hard question!! And I can’t think of a *favourite* one, but one of my favourite standalone from this year was The Shadows Between Us by Tricia Levenseller, it was amazing! I buddy read it with Candyce from The Book Dutchesses and we had SO much fun reading and discussing it. You can find my review for it here!

ON THE SECOND DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TWO TURTLE DOVES.

Love is in the air! Who is your one true pairing?

I’m going to be cliché right now, so please don’t hate me, but I HAVE to go with Feyre and Rhysand from the A Court of Thorns and Roses series by Sarah J. Maas. I love these two characters together!!

ON THE THIRD DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: THREE FRENCH HENS.

In the spirit of threes, what is the best trilogy you have read?

The first trilogy that popped into my head reading this question was the Firebird series by Claudia Gray. I read all three books – A Thousand Pieces of You (#1), Ten Thousand Skies Above You (#2) and A Million Worlds With You (#3) – about three years ago and I absolutely fell in love and have not stopped thinking about them since. I’m going to need to reread them soon!!

ON THE FOURTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FOUR CALLING BIRDS.

Since series usually consist of four or more books, what is your favourite series?

I have already mentioned it, but I adore the A Court of Thorns of Roses series by Sarah J. Maas, I’m currently rereading it with Noly from The Artsy Reader, and let me just tell you …. Oh my gosh, the *feels* !!!

ON THE FIFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: FIVE GOLDEN RINGS.

One ring to rule them all! Who is your favourite Villain/Antagonist?

Hummmmm, this is kind of a hard one as well because I haven’t read that many books in which I like the villains ahah… but I’ll have to say Moriarty, it’s not very unique, but all the Sherlock Holmes films I’ve watched and the few retellings and originals I have read, he is such a massive presence and I just need more. I have no idea why!

ON THE SIXTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SIX GEESE A LAYING.

Creation is a beautiful thing. What is your favourite world/world-building?

Oh…. I had to go check my shelves for this question, but as soon as I laid my eyes on the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness, I knew it had to go here (and I came running back to my laptop ahah)! I adore this series, it’s actually one of my favourites as well and it’s just amazing. The world-building is just wow. I highly recommend it.

ON THE SEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: SEVEN SWANS A SWIMMING.

Who needs seven swans when all it takes is one good animal sidekick? Who’s your favourite animal sidekick?

Keeper of the Lost Cities (Keeper of the Lost Cities, #1)

To be honest, I haven’t read many books where characters have animal sidekicks, so I am racking my brains and not coming up with anything but Keeper of the Lost Cities (#1) by Shannon Messenger. The main character, Sophie, has a *thing* (shall we call it because I can’t remember what it was exactly, but I promise it’s an animal) and it’s so CUTE!!!

ON THE EIGHTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS, MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: EIGHT MAIDS A MILKING.

Milk is so 18th century. Which book or series takes beverages/food to a whole new level?

The Ship of Shadows

I’m sorry Danni, I have to steal your answer: The Ship of Shadows (#1) by Maria Kuzniar. This book was amazing and I have NEVER been as hungry as I was while reading this. There are so many amazing descriptions of food, but the cake tops it all. If you love food, please read this book, you won’t regret it (but your fridge/pantry might)! I hope my review can convince you!

ON THE NINTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: NINE LADIES DANCING.

Dancing is just one skill of a Lady! Who is your favourite kickass female lead?

May Day (Seekers, #1)

Well… I’m having to steal your answer again Danni, but I mean we have amazing taste aha! I have to say Jack Valentine from May Day (#1) by Josie Jaffrey, one of my favourite books this year and wow is Jack kickass! She is amazing, sassy, she doesn’t take no for an answer and you need to go meet her now, right after you read my review!!

ON THE TENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: TEN LORDS A LEAPING.

How about your favourite leading lad?

I’m going to repeat myself, but maybe Todd Hewitt from the Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness? I loved how much he grew and evolved in this series, it was like he aged 10 years in 3 books and seeing him accept himself and others was just *chefs kiss*.

ON THE ELEVENTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: ELEVEN PIPES PIPING.

What is your favourite book or bookish thing with musical influence? (It can be about music, reference music a lot etc.)

This is where I draw a blank I’m afraid… I even searched online but I have no idea. Come to think of it, I don’t know if I have ever read a book with music or musical influence which makes sense because I’m not that into music, but yeah… I can’t find anything, sorry!

ON THE TWELFTH DAY OF CHRISTMAS MY TRUE LOVE SENT TO ME: 12 DRUMMERS DRUMMING.

Drum roll please…what is your favourite read of this year?

Amari and the Night Brothers

Hehehehe, I’m so glad for this question! I just finished it 2 days ago and it was Amari and the Night Brothers (#1) by B.B. Alston, I adored it. It was magical, meaningful, special, fun, fast-paced, beautifully written with such important messages. I’m going to be rereading this one a lot because I need more from this world and these characters, I can’t wait for the sequel. And if you want to read me gush more, you can read my review here! 😉

I’m Tagging…

Noly, Holly, Fiona, Erika, Stephen, Kimberly, Jenny, Leelynn, Candyce & Isabelle, Lily and Becky!

If I haven’t tagged you but you would like to do this tag, please feel free to do so and link back here so I can read all your answers! If I tagged you but you don’t feel like doing it, no pressure!

That’s all for now, this post was so much fun to write and I hope you enjoyed reading it! See you soon, stay safe,

Ellie xx

  1. Such a fun tag! I read Burn by Patrick Ness and it has me wondering about his other books!

  2. I loved reading your answers and book choices, Ellie. You got me thinking about whether I’ve read a book that is influenced by music or about music… I don’t think I have either.

  3. Great tag and awesome book recommendations.
I actually DNF The Shadows Between Us. I found the MC annoying and I dropped the book after several chapters. But seeing that you loved it so much, I’m thinking that maybe I should give it a second chance.

    1. Thank you, Anca! I hope you give The Shadows Between Us a second chance as it is still up there with some of my fave reads! I totally get what you mean about an annoying MC, I think she is the kind of MC you warm to slowly but then just really enjoy reading about them!
