Hello and welcome to my blog!
My name is Ellie, I am 21 years old and live in France. As a young child, I always had my head in a book, discovering new adventures and meeting new friends in fantastical worlds. Around the age of 12, I fell out of touch with my love of books, mainly because reading wasn’t “cool” where I went to school, so the only time I could use the excuse of reading was when we had to read for class. This is where I always stood out from the crowd because I was the only one in the class who had either read or liked the book. During the holidays, I spent most of my time reading, as fast as my eyes could read the words so I could pick up the next book, both in English and in French. As I got older, I started to realise that reading wasn’t an “uncool” activity and slowly but surely, became an even bigger bookworm, devouring books as fast as my parents could buy them. I have always been an avid reader, a lover of the written word, of hidden meanings and mysterious adventures, but I think that as I grew up, I realised that reading was more than just a hobby.
In February of 2019, I took a leap of faith and decided to set up a Bookstagram, I had fallen in love with this idea after spending a few months watching Booktubers ramble and rant about the books they had read, and seen their photos on their Instagram pages. I knew that I loved reading and wouldn’t be short of bookish content and I enjoyed taking photographs. So, I went for it, I created a small space on the internet where I could post pictures of books, but mainly where I could read and ramble about books, hence the name of my Instagram and this blog. I quickly felt at home in this wonderful community and after seeing my work blossom and my reading expand, both in genres and in quantity, I finally decided to create a blog. You have probably already figured out why Goodreads, Instagram, and Twitter were no longer sufficient places to talk about books, yes, I speak… a LOT!
After spending the entirety of high school studying basic classes that either bored me or totally confused me, I decided to go down a more direct road to my passion. The only classes where I was free to truly express myself and where I actually adored my time and succeeded were my English and Literature classes in high school, so I decided to start an English degree at university. Right now, I’m in the final year of my degree and hope to be approved for a Publishing Master’s degree next year.
Like many people in today’s world, I’m still unsure of what exactly it is I want to do as a career, but I know that it includes books, and that’s all I need to know for now. I hope that you will find this blog cheerful and inviting (if not a bit too talkative at times, ahah, I apologise in advance). My dream for this blog is that you’ll come to me for advice or recommendations and you’ll leave with a smile on your face and a book in your hand (not necessarily in that order). I hope that this will be a place where you will want to come to wind down after a hard day, or discover new favourite books, share your passion with me, or just have a nice chat.
That’s all for now,
Ellie xx
