Hello Hello! How are you?

Today I’m back with a tag! I have about 10 tags that I’ve been tagged in by various bloggers over the last weeks (months?) and I’m finally getting around to them, which is great because I LOVE doing tags on my blog!!

Thank you so much to Jenny from JenJen Reviews for tagging me in this tag! Such a lovely, sweet blogger, definitely go check out her blog, please! This tag was created by Milly from A Books Neverland!

On to the questions!

1. How many books do you currently own?

LOL, this is the funniest question ever. I honestly don’t know, but from a rough count, I would say that I personally own about 650 books, I’m not counting the books on my parent’s bookcases because those don’t count, even though I want to read some of them, lol! Oh… I just remembered my Kindle and Reading app on my phone, I would say I have around 450 between both apps, so I suppose I own approximately 1,100 books. Yikes!

2. How many books are you currently reading?

This tag has already made me feel targeted aha! Right, I think I am currently reading 7 books. I’m writing this on the 26th of June so that number could have gone up a lot or down a lot in the days between me writing the post and it going up on my blog. The books I’m currently reading are:

  • Tilly and the Lost Fairy Tales by Anne James (I think I will finish this one tonight so…)
  • Blood Red City by Rod Reynolds
  • A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab
  • The Trials of Morrigan Crow by Jennifer Townsend (I’m sure I’ll finish this one before this post goes up too)
  • The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien
  • Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race by Reni Eddo-Lodge
  • Twilight by Stephenie Meyer
  • And just in case I do manage to start it, I’m currently eyeing up The Mystery Affair at Styles by Agatha Christie.

Yes, I know, my reading pile is a mess, I’ve got a lot of books on the go aha, I always read multiple books and I have no idea why!

3. Choose a couple books you read but didn’t enjoy?

Ohhh, now this is probably going to be a bit tricky. I’ve got two books that pop into my head as soon as I think about a book I didn’t like and they are Tangerine by Christine Mangan and The Girl on the Train by Paula Hawkins. I also wasn’t a fan of Wilder Girls by Rory Power that I read last year. I can’t really think of that many books that I didn’t like because I usually try to gauge whether I will really like a book or not before actually picking it up, but sometimes I fail aha!

4. A cover buy?

MANY, no seriously, I have to say The Ten Thousand Doors of January by Alix E. Harrow (even though some of my lovely blogger friends – who know who they are – convinced me beforehand), or Le Tour du Monde en 80 Jours (Around the World in 80 Days) by Jules Verne, I got the Collection Hetzel Illustrated Edition of this one and two of his other books a while ago and they are *chefs kiss*.

And now, typically, I can think about another million books I’ve bought solely because the cover was gorgeous, but I’m going to keep schtum, guilty conscience okay?

5. A book you own but hate the cover of?

My first ever copy of Les Misérables by Victor Hugo, funnily enough, it’s one of my all-time favourite books, but that cover was just not very pretty in my opinion. I can’t find the exact one I own, but here is the closest I can find. Let me tell you a little something about French covers, they DON’T know how to make them, nearly all the books I own that are French (not translated into French but originally French) are like this, blank white cover, author name, title, little picture of something, like.. really? Not a fan.

6. A book you haven’t read in years?

Aha, well, I suppose I can use Les Misérables by Victor Hugo for this question too, I am due a re-read right now, I need to get to it before the end of the year, I really miss it. Also, I suppose my Guillaume Musso books, I have all of them, apart from his last one and I haven’t read them for at least 3 years.

7. A book you will always recommend?

I can’t repeat myself again (although I want to), so I’m going to have to find something else… Argh! Okay, I’m going to say either The Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness or the Pages and Co series by Anna James, it has to be either series because I cannot think of a standalone right now, literally.

8. All-time favorite book series?

A) Is it bad that I have more than one? B) Also, some of these are very controversial but they are my faves, so…

  • Twilight by Stephenie Meyer (yes I know, but I love it, so please don’t hate me).
  • A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J Maas
  • Firebird series by Claudia Gray (you need to read this series if you haven’t already)
  • The Chaos Walking series by Patrick Ness

9. Where do you read?

Anywhere my body will fit 🤣 but mostly in bed, on the sofa or in my comfy chair in my office!

10. What are the last two books you gave a 5 star rating? And why?

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson because I adored it so much. It was amazing, I loved everything about this book, the characters, the writing style, the plot, all the investigations that Pippa does, the relationship between the characters and how Pippa and Ravi found out the truth, I highly highly highly highly highly recommend a lot a lot a lot, it was amazing and I loved it.

And Promises Forged by Devri Walls because again, it was a great book, it had a lot more than the first book in the Venators series did, it answered quite a few questions (and created a bunch more). I loved how the plot was complex and you could see the potential of about 4 other stories, it was fast-paced, filled with everything I love in a fantasy series and the characters are just GREAT!

I tag: Noly, Holly, Charlie, Fiona, Becky and Erika

That’s all for now, this was such a fun post! If I didn’t tag you but you want to do this tag too, feel free to do so! See you soon, stay safe,

Ellie xx

  1. Fun tag and great answers! What was wrong with The Girl on the Train? I was thinking about reading that one.

    1. Thank you! Both my mum and I found it so boring and just couldn’t connect, but I know people with the same reading tastes as me have adored it, so it might just be a personal taste thing! I hope you enjoy it if you do read it!

  2. It was fun to read your answers! I agree with you about Wilder Girls, I found it very disappointing when I read it this year
