Hello Hello! How are you?
It’s already that time of the month which means today I will be telling you all about the book the Middle Grade Marvels book club has decided to read for April.
But first, let’s see where we got to with our March books!
This month, the Middle Grade Marvels have been reading two books: Nightbooks by J. A. White and The Last Spell Breather by Julie Pike. A few of us have finished Nightbooks, but I’m still on the third section of both and hoping to finish them both in the next days. Nightbooks is definitely the book I have been enjoying the most. It is so very unique, really well written, engaging, creepy, and just a bunch of great fun. While I want to love The Last Spell Breather, I’m just struggling with it a little bit so far. The third section was better, but I keep asking myself questions about the world, the magic system and I don’t trust the characters. I just hope the final section will wrap things up nicely and give me the answers I need.
If you don’t know what this book club is, head over to my announcement post here, Noly’s announcement post here, and Holly’s announcement post here. If you are interested in joining our book club on Twitter or Goodreads, you can find all the information you need for March in the pinned tweet at @GradeMarvels.
The April BOTM information Tweet has been published and pinned, so you may already know that in April we will be reading The Gallery of Wonders by Marc Remus, which is the first book in the Magora series.
I hadn’t heard of this book at all until Holly told us about it and we all decided it would be a great book to read. This one sounds really unique, it has a really cool cover and hopefully, a lot of great things will happen in it. I can’t remember the blurb exactly, but I know it’s about some children actually travelling inside a painting, which sounds so fun, so I’m excited to pick this one up.
Eleven-year-old Holly O’Flanigan discovers an unusual paintbrush and a canvas with the image of a fantasy world that her late grandfather has left behind. She falls into the magical land of Magora, where everything and everyone is made of paint.
There she learns to weave art and magic at Cliffony Art Academy, but her carefree life is soon overshadowed by dark events.
Valuable paintings have been stolen from the Gallery of Wonders. During Holly’s search for the thief, she discovers the Unfinished—monstrous beings created when a painting is left incomplete. Like vampires, the Unfinished hunger for the one thing that can flesh out their bodies—blood. And they want Holly’s most of all.
