Hello Hello! How are you all?

I am so thrilled to be writing this post today because, in May, the Middle Grade Marvels will be celebrating our one year anniversary of our book club, amazing reads and amazing chats with our fab Marvels friends! We all think that the BOTM pick for May is going to be fabulous, and such a perfect choice for our celebratory month.

But first, let’s see where we got to with our April book!

The month, the Middle Grade Marvels have been reading The Gallery of Wonders by Marc Remus, the first book in the Magora series. Unfortunately, I did not like this book at all, and I had to DNF it.

As soon as I started reading this book, I honestly wondered what the hell I had gotten myself into. It starts with some very triggering content for the age group it is aimed at, and for me (this is only my opinion of course), it just got worse and worse. I don’t want to bash the book or the author, but I just felt that this was a poorly written book, there were too many ideas, it was too close to Harry Potter and I just found so many elements weird. So this was not a book for me, as you can tell.

If you don’t know what this book club is, head over to my announcement post here, Noly’s announcement post here, and Holly’s announcement post here. If you are interested in joining our book club on Twitter or Goodreads, you can find all the information you need for March in the pinned tweet at @GradeMarvels.

The May BOTM information Tweet has been published and pinned, so you may already know that in May we will be reading City of Ghosts by Victoria Schwab, the first book in the Cassidy Blake series.

I read this first book a couple of years ago and really enjoyed it, but then for some reason, I didn’t continue the series. I’m really happy that this book won the BOTM vote for May as it is our 1 year anniversary, and I think it will be a fantastic read to celebrate that. And here’s to the next year of the Middle Grade Marvels book club and great MG reads.

Book Cover

Cassidy Blake’s parents are The Inspecters, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one.

When The Inspecters head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn’t sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn’t belong in her world. Cassidy’s powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself.
