Hello Hello! I hope you’re all okay!

I’m bringing you a very different post today. I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to request review copies offered by Quirk Books and as soon as I saw the three that I’m telling you about today, I knew I needed to request them, and I was even more surprised and happy to see them in my inbox!

So thank you so much Stephen Haskins, Jamie-Lee Nardone and Nicole De Jackmo for providing me with review copies of these books! It is so very appreciated and I can’t wait to finish them all and get reviews up soon!

On to the feature!

I was so glad when I got these books on my Kindle that I immediately went to have a look through each of them. I’m rushed off my feet at the moment so I didn’t have time to read much, but I did get to read a few pages of each and I’m already sold. I’m hoping to get done with all my university work soon so I can sit down and read them fully.

These are very unique books, they are not going to be for everyone, but if you have an open mind, like unconventional nonfiction and specifically books about crystals, modern-day witchcraft and astrology, then these are the books for you, so keep on reading!

Crystal Clear: Reflections on Extraordinary Talismans for Everyday Life by Jaya Saxena

Jaya Saxena explores the multi-faceted meanings and history behind eleven popular crystals in this relatable personal essay collection.

Highly prized for their beauty, crystals can take the shape of jewelry, household objects, and an array of self-care products. But it’s the ideas they stand for that draw people to their raw forms. Like astrology, tarot, and modern witchcraft, crystals help practitioners understand themselves and the wider world around them.

In this collection of sharply observed essays, Jaya Saxena reflects on–and challenges–the ideas associated with eleven popular stones, including unconditional love (rose quartz), happiness and success (citrine), balance (amethyst), self-care (black tourmaline), purity (pearl), imposter syndrome (pyrite), toxic positivity (carnelian), change (opals), traditional concepts of marriage (diamonds), presentation versus identity (obsidian), and death (amber).

The result is a deeply personal book with universal appeal, exploring how we assign meaning and power to crystals in order to give meaning and power to our lives.

I have read more pages in this book than the others so far because I was a bit hooked but then sadly had to pull myself away. I have always been fascinated by crystals, not just for their beauty, but all the things I’ve heard growing up, how they can help you, calm you, etc, and I have always wanted to find out more.

This book is going to be the perfect choice for you if you would like to learn more things about crystals, if you want to know their history, their meaning and which ones you need in your life. I’m very much looking forward to reading more of this book because I’m sure it’s going to open my eyes to new things!

Basic Witches: How to Summon Success, Banish Drama, and Raise Hell with Your Coven by Jaya Saxena

Capitalizing on the rising trend of hipster witchcraft, BASIC WITCHES is a lighthearted and empowering book of spells and lifestyle tips for feisty millennial women.

In Basic Witches, readers will discover how to tap into their inner sorceress and channel the dark arts for everything from cluttered apartments to dating disasters. Want to enhance your attractiveness? Pick the right power color of eyeshadow and project otherworldly glamour. Need to exorcise a toxic friendship? Say the right symbolic curse and banish it from your life. Need to boost your self-confidence? Whip up a tasty herbal “potion” to strengthen your inner resolve. Plus historical and pop culture sidebars that situate the new witchcraft trend within a broader context. With humor, heart, and a hip modern sensibility, journalists Jaya Saxena and Jess Zimmerman dispense witchy wisdom for the curious, the cynical, and anyone who could use a magical boost to get through the day. This ain’t your grandma’s grimoire!

I have definitely seen a trend over the last couple of years in witchcraft and being such a hardcore fan of Charmed (yes I know, don’t judge me, it’s not the same at all aha), I was immediately pulled towards it. I’ve wanted to read books like this one for ages and I have had my eye on The Green Witch: Your Complete Guide to the Natural Magic of Herbs, Flowers, Essential Oils, and More by Arin Murphy-Hiscock, before I am very much interested in those kinds of themes, but when I saw this one, I knew it was the perfect opportunity to find out more about this trend.

This book will be perfect for you if you need a little boost, are looking for a book that can lighten your mood and help you along with some sticky situations, or if, just like me, you want to discover and learn about an ongoing trend and see if it’s something you want to jump on the bandwagon for! I’m looking forward to reading this over Christmas and seeing what this trend is all about!

The Astrology of You and Me by Gary Goldschneider

Use the power of the stars to perfect your relationships with friends, family, partners… everyone you know!

Do you know how to live peacefully with a Taurus? Discuss money issues with a Cancer? Improve your sex life with a Scorpio? The Astrology of You and Me offers help and guidance direct from the heavens, perfect for solving every for every star-crossed situation imaginable. Chapters organized by astrological sign direct you to the right tactics for dealing with everyone from friends and family to bosses and coworkers. Originally published as Gary Goldschneider’s Everyday Astrology, this Quirk backlist favorite has a fresh new look, new artwork, and all the time-tested astrological advice that makes your interpersonal relationships shine. The fault’s not in our stars… the solution is!

This is the last book I’m going to be talking about today, and apparently, it is a backlist favourite from Quirk Books, so it must be good! One of my friends is very in tune with all things astrology and whenever she meets someone new, she always asks what their astrological sign is. The first time she asked me, I was a bit perplexed and through the years, getting to know her more, I’ve seen what she said come true time and time again, and it has baffled me.

This is the book I’m the most intrigued in out of the three just because for 4 years, I have been surrounded by this theme and not understood it, but now is the perfect opportunity. If you, like me, want to learn more about astrology and human relationships, then I think you will enjoy this book a lot!

.

These are all nonfiction books, on the esoteric side of books and I’m personally very intrigued to see what I think of each of them! This is going to be such a fun reading experience, and I’m sure I’m going to come away with a lot more knowledge about these topics than going in!

I hope that you will find that special book within this list, whether it is for you, a friend or a family member! I’m sure there are hundreds of books just like these ones, but these three seem like a great place to start! These are great books to add to your Christmas Wishlist or buy for someone you love, so make sure you’ve got them all wrapped and under your tree soon!

Thank you once again to Stephen, Jamie-Lee and Nicole, I’m so happy that I got the chance to read and review these books and I’m excited to keep on reading!

That’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed this post and will check these books out! See you soon, stay safe,

Ellie xx
