Hello Hello! How are you?

I know I say this every month, but where the hell did February go??? I feel like only yesterday was the last day of January. But anyway, today I am here to talk about the Middle Grade Marvels books – yes, you read that right, plural!! – that we will be reading in March.

In February, the Middle Grade Marvels have been reading Octavia Bloom and the Missing Key by Estelle Grace Tudor, the first book in the Through the Fairy Door series. We have the final section to read and discuss on Saturday and while I was loving sections 1 and 2, something bizarre occurred to the pacing and the plot in section 3 and my thoughts are now all over the place. I’m intrigued to see how this will tie up because the last section is tiny and I have so many questions! I think this will be a series I’ll continue because I want to read more about this beautiful magical world.

If you don’t know what this book club is, head over to my announcement post here, Noly’s announcement post here, and Holly’s announcement post here. If you are interested in joining our book club on Twitter or Goodreads, you can find all the information you need for March in the pinned tweet at @GradeMarvels.

The March BOTM poll has been voted on, and the information Tweet has been published and pinned, so you may already know that in March we will be back to reading 2 books in one month for the book club! These two books are The Last Spell Breather by Julie Pike and Nightbooks by J. A. White.

These two books were ones that we added to the nominations list after we had used them in a Similar Books list and I am so happy they both made it onto our March TBR because they sound fantastic and I am in love with the covers. I hadn’t heard of these books before, but now that I have, and that I have read the blurb, I can’t believe it took me so long to find these books. I’m glad they came 1st place together because I was struggling to pick which of the two I wanted to read the most aha!

The Last Spell Breather by Julie Pike

The Last Spell Breather

A stunning fantasy debut, enter the unique world of the Spell Breathers. Spell Breathing does not come naturally to Rayne – she loathes the hours of practice, the stacks of scrolls, and the snapping mud devils that cover her mother’s precious spell book.

But it is spell breathing that keeps her village safe from the dreaded monster curse that plagues their world. It is ancient powerful magic, but as Rayne learns to her horror . . . it is also fragile.

In one clumsy move, the magic that keeps them safe is broken, her village is plunged into danger, and an incredible adventure begins . . .

Nightbooks by J. A. White

Nightbooks

A boy is imprisoned by a witch and must tell her a new scary story each night to stay alive. This thrilling contemporary fantasy from J. A. White, the acclaimed author of the Thickety series, brings to life the magic and craft of storytelling.

Alex’s original hair-raising tales are the only thing keeping the witch Natacha happy, but soon he’ll run out of pages to read from and be trapped forever. He’s loved scary stories his whole life, and he knows most don’t have a happily ever after. Now that Alex is trapped in a true terrifying tale, he’s desperate for a different ending—and a way out of this twisted place.

This modern spin on the Scheherazade story is perfect for fans of Coraline and A Tale Dark and Grimm. With interwoven tips on writing with suspense, adding in plot twists, hooks, interior logic, and dealing with writer’s block, this is the ideal book for budding writers and all readers of delightfully just-dark-enough tales.

If you haven’t yet joined our book club and you love reading Middle Grade books, what are you waiting for?

You can sign-up on this form to tell us where you want to discuss the book(s) (Twitter, Goodreads), if you will read the BOTM(s) with us or just read something from your own TBR. Those already in the Twitter chat no longer need to sign-up, so you can sit back, relax and get ready for some great reading in March! If you are in the MGM – BOTM Twitter chat, but do not want to follow the March BOTM discussion, you are free to leave, and of course if you would like to come back in following months, just fill out the form again, or you can just stay in there and join back in with the conversation when you are ready!

As usual, the Nominations form is still open and this is where you can give us your nominations, and please remember to join us on Goodreads where we post our BOTM discussions for you to join in. We have also posted the Recommendations list and Nominations board for you on there. If you are not on Goodreads, you can find our Recommendations list here.

From this month on, we have decided that we won’t be making a Similar Books list because it took us a lot of time and we didn’t know how useful it was, but we will be adding all the books from previous lists to the current Recommendations list. However, if you don’t want to read our BOTM(s) and you can’t find anything else that takes your fancy, either on your TBR or our Recommendation list, then feel free to DM one of us (HollyNolyme) to ask about alternatives and ideas! And of course, you can read any Middle Grade book you have on your TBR, just let us know what you will be reading with the hashtag #middlegrademarvels on Twitter!

Holly, Noly and I are so excited for the March books and we hope that you are too! Join our club if you love Middle Grade stories and want to discuss some amazing books with our amazing members! Looking forward to having you on for the ride!

That’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed this post, see you soon, stay safe,

Ellie xx
