Hello Hello! How are you?
This week has gone by ridiculously fast and I can’t believe it’s already Sunday. Yesterday was the last discussion day for Middle Grade Marvels Book Club and Tilly and the Book Wanderers by Anna James and also Shadowhunter Saturday #0. If you don’t know what either of those things are, that makes me sad, but you can go check out the Middle Grade Marvels Official Announcement & the June Announcement; and then my announcement for Shadowhunter Saturdays and Fiona’s announcement too!
Now, for today’s post, I have to tell you that both Noly and I have sort of failed again this month, BUT, we have been getting a lot of things ready over this past month, one of which is the exciting announcement for today! First things first, let’s talk about the wrap-up for May, which is going to be very fast again aha!
May Wrap-Up
In May, we were supposed to read A Darker Shade of Magic (#1) by V.E. Schwab as our Hype-A-Thon BOTM for #MagicalMay, and we were both really, really excited to get to it, but we only managed a few chapters… My excuse would be that we were busy organising the next round of the readathon, but that probably doesn’t count right?
Anyway, we did LOVE what we read so far, I think I enjoyed it a bit more than Noly, but we were both surprised and both very intrigued by the setting. I honestly don’t read that many books where I think that the worldbuilding is AMAZING from chapter 1, but this one is, even though I haven’t read much of it. I was a bit confused by where exactly Kell was, but I’m sure as we read more everything will be explained. We might put this on hold until we do read our June books, but I am definitely keeping this one close by because I’m sure we are both going to love it when we finally give it a proper go.
June Announcement and TBR – The Hype-A-Thon Readathon Special Summer Edition
So, this is the very exciting part and also what we have been working on for a while, hence the late announcement on our Twitter. It took us a really long time to come up with a theme for June and then when we decided on the theme #JourneyJune and looked at the number of hyped books we were thinking of choosing from, we knew we had to do a Special Summer Edition over two months! So here it is!
In June and July, we will be reading hyped or famous books in which the characters go on a quest, a journey, an adventure, start a trip, go travelling, anything that involves going from place A to place B. This quest or adventure can be a mental one, where the characters have to come to terms with something in their lives, say they have a terminal illness and their quest is to accept it and get ready for what awaits them, or maybe a more physical adventure, say a character going to find their long lost mother! As long as it has a journey, it counts!
We have compiled a very long list of books that fit this description and we have added information about what these two months are about. We love the list we came up with, and we hope you will too, you don’t have to read anything on it, but we thought it would be a great place to start if you were unsure of what to pick or needed some inspiration! Now let’s look at the books Noly and I will be reading (and yes, this month we will!!) for #JourneyJune. We haven’t yet decided 100% on the July books, so of course, there will be a Hype-A-Thon post at the end of June!
It actually took us quite a long time to figure out what WE wanted to read during these two months, so we ended up each making a list of the top 10 books we wanted to read first, seeing what we had in common and then doing a random number generator to pick our books. We are probably spreading ourselves thin again as usual, but we really felt like reading multiple books, none of them are very long, so we hope we can finish them all!
Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson
I’ve actually had this book on my bookshelves ever since I was a child, and I remember having read a few chapters in school, but I’ve never picked it up, despite knowing how famous it is. It was so funny because actually we had 6 books in common on our top 10 list, which is really crazy because there must be about 50 books on it! I know I’m super excited to read this one, especially because Tilly and Oskar have their own little adventure in Treasure Island in Tilly and the Book Wanderers and we both now want to read every book that was mentioned in our Middle Grade Marvels BOTM.
The Hobbit or There and Back Again by J.R.R. Tolkien
Yes, I know, we haven’t read this book yet, or the Lord of the Rings series, and I personally haven’t even seen the films. Funnily enough, both Noly and I took forever to read Harry Potter because we were both sceptical of the hype surrounding the books, and I remember swearing at the age of 13 that I would never ever read Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings, well, I obviously didn’t listen to past Ellie, because I loved Harry Potter, and I have a feeling I’ll love this one too!
Journey to the Center of the Earth by Jules Verne
What would #JourneyJune be without a Jules Verne book? I read Around the World in 80 Days when I was about 10 years old and absolutely loved it, so I’ve had the majority of his books on my TBR ever since and I think that this will be the perfect excuse to get to at least one of them! I’m very excited to read this book, I’m sure it’s going to be a high-adventure, action-packed, thrilling read, and I’m ready right now!
Well, that’s it, I suppose, I’ve been so excited about this announcement for such a long time that it’s a bit of an anti-climax now aha!
Anyway, we hope that you will join us in our monthly readathons if you don’t already and I really hope that at least one of the books on our list will take your fancy! Don’t forget to tell us what you will be reading and give us updates during the month at @HypeThon, and don’t forget to use the hashtags #hypeathonreadathon and #JourneyJune & #JourneyJuly.
That’s all for now, I hope you enjoyed this post! See you soon, stay safe,
Ellie xx

So glad to know you’re enjoying A Darker Shade of Magic! I read it last month and completely adored it, it was a 5-star read for me. You definitely will be able to tell apart the different Londons once you get further into the book. The theme for June and July is amazing! I love the books with journeys and quests✨
Thank you!! I’m so excited to finish them all, I really need to just keep pushing though! 🙃
Hope it went well!
Thank you, it flopped a bit, but we are trying to catch up aha!
